Contract Template Builder
Build a service, freelance, or consulting contract from a template. Fill in the parties, dates, payment terms, and custom clauses, then preview, print, or download the finished document.
What the Contract Template Builder Does
The Contract Template Builder turns a fill in the blank form into a complete, printable contract. Enter both parties, choose a contract type, set the dates, payment amount, scope of work, and payment terms, and the tool assembles a formatted agreement in real time. Add any custom clauses you need, review the live preview, then copy the text, download the document as HTML, or print it and save as PDF.
Everything happens in your browser. Names, addresses, and payment details never leave your device, which makes the tool suitable for confidential client work. The generated document is a solid starting template for common engagements, not a substitute for legal advice.
How to Use the Contract Template Builder
- Fill in the details for Party A, typically you or your business.
- Fill in the details for Party B, the client or counterparty.
- Choose a contract type: Service Agreement, Freelance Contract, Consulting Agreement, or Custom Contract.
- Set the effective date, optional end date, payment amount, scope of work, and payment terms.
- Add clauses with the Add Clause button if the standard sections are not enough.
- Use Copy Text, Download HTML, or Print / Save PDF to export the finished document.
What Each Section Covers
- Services: a plain description of what will be delivered. Be specific. Deliverables, formats, and revision counts belong here.
- Term: when the agreement starts and whether it ends on a fixed date or runs until the work is complete.
- Payment: the agreed amount and how and when it is paid, including deposit requirements and invoice due dates.
- Additional clauses: your own numbered sections for anything the template does not cover, such as revision limits, confidentiality specifics, or equipment ownership.
- General provisions: standard language covering independent contractor status, confidentiality, the entire agreement clause, amendments, and governing law.
Choosing a Contract Type
The Service Agreement fits general project work between a business and a client. The Freelance Contract uses contractor friendly labels for solo work. The Consulting Agreement frames the engagement as advisory services. The Custom Contract keeps neutral Party A and Party B labels when none of the others fit. All four share the same structure, so switching types only changes the title and the way each side is named.
Exporting and Signing
Copy Text gives you a plain text version for pasting into email or a chat. Download HTML produces a styled document you can open in any browser. Print / Save PDF opens the same styled document in a new tab and triggers your browser's print dialog, where you can choose Save as PDF. From there, sign digitally with a PDF tool, then verify signatures with the PDF Signature Checker if the other party signed digitally. If the final paperwork needs combining, the PDF Merger can join the contract with exhibits or appendices.
Building an invoice to match the payment terms? The Invoice Generator creates one from the same details. If your site also needs standard legal pages, the Privacy Policy Generator covers the other side of the paperwork.
Good Practices for Simple Contracts
- Be specific about deliverables, deadlines, and how many revision rounds are included.
- State the deposit rule and the day the final balance is due, not just the amount.
- Put anything unusual in an additional clause rather than editing the standard ones.
- Keep a signed copy for both parties, and store it somewhere both can reach.
- For high value or unusual engagements, have a qualified lawyer review the agreement before signing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Contract Template Builder free?
Yes. The tool is free, requires no account, and runs entirely in your browser. Your details are never uploaded.
Is the generated contract legally binding?
The tool produces a template, not legal advice. For simple, low risk engagements a clear written agreement helps, but you should consult a qualified lawyer for high value or unusual contracts and for anything specific to your jurisdiction.
What contract types are supported?
Four: Service Agreement, Freelance Contract, Consulting Agreement, and a neutral Custom Contract. All four share the same sections and can be extended with your own clauses.
Can I add my own clauses?
Yes. Click Add Clause to add a titled section with any text you like. Clauses are numbered automatically after the Payment section, and the general provisions renumber to stay in order.
How do I get a PDF?
Click Print / Save PDF. The document opens in a new tab and your browser's print dialog appears, where you can select Save as PDF as the destination. You can also download the HTML version and print it later.
Does the tool store my data?
No. All fields are processed locally in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and nothing is saved after you close the page.
Can I use the contract for clients in another country?
The template includes a governing law section that you should adapt to the jurisdiction you agree on. Have a lawyer review cross border engagements before signing.
