What Is Container Loading Optimization?

Shipping efficiency depends on how many identical cartons fit inside a container. Volume alone can overestimate capacity because box orientation and stacking layers matter. This calculator tests all orientations and reports utilization.

How Package Fit Is Estimated

Select a standard container or enter custom internal dimensions. Enter package length, width, and height. The tool rotates the box through six orientations, counts units along length, width, and height, and multiplies for total packages per container.

Which container sizes are included?

Presets include 10 ft, 20 ft, and 40 ft standard containers, high-cube variants, and pallet-wide options with common internal dimensions.

Why is utilization below 100%?

Rectangular boxes leave unused space at container walls and between layers. Real loading also needs dunnage and handling gaps.

Does the tool rotate packages?

Yes. It evaluates all six axis orientations and picks the arrangement with the highest package count.

Can I use metric package sizes?

Yes. Choose centimeters, meters, inches, or feet for package dimensions. Container presets remain in meters.

Is this the same as CBM?

CBM focuses on shipment volume and freight weight. This tool focuses on discrete box count and stacking layout per container.
