UUID Inspector
Parse UUIDs to reveal version, variant, RFC representations, and embedded timestamps for v1, v6, and v7.
Decode UUID version, variant, and embedded timestamps
Paste any RFC 4122 UUID in canonical, compact, uppercase, or urn:uuid: form.
The inspector reveals the version nibble, variant bits, common string representations, raw
binary, and decoded timestamps for time-based versions (v1, v6, and v7). Parsing is local;
no network lookup is performed.
How to use this tool
- Enter a UUID from logs, databases, or OpenAPI examples.
- Read version and variant in the summary card.
- Check timestamp fields when the version is 1, 6, or 7.
- Copy alternate formats from the representations table.
To generate new identifiers, use the UUID v7 Generator or the general UUID Generator Tool.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which UUID versions expose a timestamp?
Version 1 and 6 embed a Gregorian-epoch timestamp. Version 7 embeds Unix milliseconds in the first 48 bits per RFC 9562. Versions 4 and 5 are random or name-based and show no clock field.
Are v1 timestamps exact to the microsecond?
The tool reconstructs the 100-nanosecond count from the UUID bit layout and converts it to ISO 8601 UTC. Sub-millisecond precision depends on how the UUID was created.
Is my UUID sent to a server?
No. All parsing happens in your browser with JavaScript bitwise operations.
