Takt Time Calculator
Calculate takt time from available production time and customer demand to balance your manufacturing line.
What Is Takt Time?
Takt time is the maximum time you can spend producing one unit while still meeting customer demand. Lean manufacturing teams use it to pace assembly lines, schedule breaks, and spot bottlenecks before they miss shipments.
How to Calculate Takt Time
Divide available production time by the number of units customers need in that same period.
For example, if a team has 480 minutes in a shift and must ship 240 units, takt time is 2 minutes per unit.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the takt time formula?
Takt time equals available production time divided by customer demand. Both values must cover the same planning window, such as one shift or one day.
How is takt time different from cycle time?
Takt time is the target pace set by demand. Cycle time is how long one unit actually takes on the line. If cycle time exceeds takt time, the line cannot keep up.
Should breaks be included in available time?
Subtract planned breaks, meetings, and changeovers from gross shift time. Use only the minutes when production can realistically run.
Can takt time be less than one second?
Yes. High-volume lines often measure takt time in seconds. This calculator supports seconds, minutes, and hours for both input and output.
What if demand changes mid-shift?
Recalculate takt time whenever the order mix or available time changes. Many plants review takt time at the start of each shift.
